Overview:

The Social Research Unit (formerly SERIO), in collaboration with Exeter City Council, has embarked on a transformative journey to evaluate the Sport England-funded Local Delivery Pilot, Live & Move. This initiative aims to revolutionise Exeter and Cranbrook into active lifestyle hubs, targeting even the least active residents in specific areas.

Objectives for the project:

  • Encourage regular physical activity in targeted communities

  • Engage schools, workplaces, and communities in the initiative

  • Tailor interventions to meet the unique needs of each population

The Social Research Unit’s evaluation approach:

  • To boost and collaborate on the test-and-learn methodology which the Live & Move evaluation team adopted

  • Provide agile and responsive data to support continuous improvement

  • Evidence how the programme facilitates system change

Outcomes and findings to date:

  • Successfully identified strategies to boost physical activity levels in target areas

  • Established a dynamic framework for community engagement

  • Demonstrated the effectiveness of tailored interventions for diverse populations

Secondary impact:

  • Strengthened the partnership between the Social Research Unit, Exeter City Council, and the University

  • Aligned with the University's civic mission, reinforcing dedication to community wellbeing
